BEWARE OF FALLING PLANES AT MANSTON!

If you haven't heard all ready about NIGHT FLIGHTS at Manston airport, then have you heard about the RADAR? The newly opened THANET OFFSHORE wind farm has caused the radar to lose track of the planes, so don't be surprised if one falls or crashes! Everybody needs to be aware of this! Its a shame TDC has no TLC!

When you phone TDC to ask questions...you might as well hit your head against a brick wall!

Lastly...infratil have got the dog lead and are taking TDC for walkies! They have stopped planning permission for a 4 mile radius of the airport!

The THANET VISION FOR 20 years time, was up as a consultation and ended in May 2009. The master plan goes on to say that the airport will be the main money growing tree of this island. You see TDC need to back this document and tick their boxes. So we will have to be deprived of sleep for their vision..but it'll all be worth it in the end..I mean no tourism, no nature, no hotels, no amusements, lower house prices...I can see the advantages! Laugh out loud!

First post in a long time!

We need to be quite clear that the cons far outweigh the pros on this potentially no over exaggerated catastrophe. There are so many cons that the weight in balance with the pros could sink the Isle of Thanet twice or more over.

I have made a quick list of Pros and cons for NIGHT FLIGHTS:

pros:
-Empty land big enough to build on
-It's concrete and no green land will suffer

Cons
-Sleep deprivation
-Suffering of education
-More freight on the roads
-Pollution in the air
-Lowering of house prices in Thanet as a whole
-Loss of businesses and tourism
-people leaving Thanet
-Structural repairs needed more often
-Noise pollution.
-Hotels will become housing for unwelcome guests
-Air traffic will pile-up, leaving no alternative but to fly around the coast and taxi more and over towns not normally disturbed
-cargo planes used have been banned from any other UK and EU airport
-no other airport has night flights such as Heathrow and Stansted
-Only 111 jobs will be created
-Wildlife and household pets will be in distress
-Children may have long term difficulties in breathing, heart conditions etc
-The wind farm "the worlds largest" off the coast of Thanet has caused a grey zone on Manston's radar and a replacement will be in by November 2011 at the earliest.
-Will destroy sleep patterns, therefore will effect people's jobs early in the morning
-will stop the investments of properties along the coast and renovation of these. Stopping builders and designers and money trading hands.
-the water tables will be polluted, in particular the one at Manston!
-The jobs lost in Thanet overall will far outweigh jobs created at the airport.
-Buildings that are of historic importance will decay and not be renovated because of lack of interest.
-People moving away will show the green light to the airport to expand!
-There will be on average 8 planes a night or more.

This is only a highlight of the key points.

Thanet is an Island again?

You should be familiar with Google maps or Bing Maps, but what if we did become separated from the rest of the Country again or Kent at least? Would we build a bridge or access it by an underground train or by boat? Rumours say that Sanswich will flood by 50 years time, but maybe not all of it anyway. It is great to say that you live on an Isle. It has fantastic history and greeat new things happening at the moment (Turner Centre, Dreamland etc...) But what if the view was to change from beyond our control..and the society and ordinance was to be re-mapped like hundreds of years ago? See below for a Google map of the Island of Thanet.

Dreamland Heritage Park Visions

Here are some of the views you would be able to see once inside the newly re-opened Dreamland Heritage Park. As a student, I am currently writing my dissertation on the history of our Dreamland here in Thanet and how the park has become the influence of the parks Luna, Steeplechase and Dreamland in Coney Island and particulary the decline of the park since the 1960s (from an architectural, historical and urban position). I have found many satellite views and photos and made comparisons, its amazing the changes that have happened in a specific site such as Dreamland.

But anyway these computer modelled views show the latest plan in 3 dimensions.

Arlington House Tesco

Could it be as famous as our fantastic Art Deco/Modernist Dreamland Cinema Building? With the Vegas Style influenced logo featured on its fin? Well there are rumors that Tesco stores Ltd are to open a new store in Ramsgate- located on on the site of the former £Stretcher, Dixons and across the road where Tesco first began in Ramsgate in the former superdrug store. But there is now fresh hope again- for Margate, as it is quite honeslty on the up! The Turner Centre too is featured in the press. If Tesco has it's way we could be seeing the run-down Arlington Square site- rejuvenated with a much needed improvement. There are so many prospect at the moment too- along with Ramsgate's boating pool to be featured on the Tv. Tesco have been discussing plans with KCC and TDC for a regnenertaion on the flats and the mall arcade. The plans will go to public consultation and see coloured panelling applied to the 1960's tallest building along the front and the store in the arcade- well Tesco is afterall one of the largest companies in Britain and it will make them look good in the eyes of the people. I have photo montaged a look for the tower- like a large Tesco carrier bag, with the Dreamland-like logo displaying Tesco Tower or maybe a good respectable influence for it could be by Sauerbruch hutton architects.

Westwood Cross Spot the Difference

I remember ever since the mid-90's that Westwood Cross was on a new wave length. It was changing and I knew some how it was going to change. How I knew Westwood Cross then was Pierce Signs, the old Homebase store, Co-op hypermarket, Sainsbury's, Toolshop, bus station, the Haine Hospital, a computer shop and some 1930's terrace houses. This was all to change and the prospects of a newer and bigger retail outlet was to not only use the land of existing building- erasing the foundations from the landscape, but was also to thrive on some empty sites- that luckily had hardly if any trees on, but still made Thanet Earth and Beautiful an entirely different concept.
But today using satellite imaging you can see the difference between late 90's and mid 2000's.

Dreamland Heritage Park

This is the new proposal for the Dreamland Site, I'm still unsure about how much other development and what is planned for the remainder 50% of the 20 achre site, but i was led to believe that it was housing.

Dream-on Dreamland this Summer 09!

Fantastic news that a summer fair of rides and amusements to be place on the site of Dreamland this summer for 2 weeks. Its starts 0n the 12 of this month and finishes up on the 31st of August, I hope those are the correct dates anyway! good news for the site. I'm not sure the exact location, but it would be nice to think that it is on the major old park site.

This should give us a glimpse of the future to see how advantageous, popular and profitable it is...but the major task is to bring fun, and laughter to all tourists and locals...at apparent good prices!

oh, another item ...i was wondering if anyone watched BBC' 2's Coast programme, this week featuring Blackpool...a really interesting a true episode...where prof John Walton (tourist and resort expert) talked on the decline of seaside towns in Britain and what has and should have been done. (see link below)

Exciting plans to build the world's first heritage amusement park in Margate have taken a major step forward.

The Dreamland Trust has been given £384,500 by the Heritage Lottery Fund to kick start the ground-breaking project.

The move - which does not guarantee any further funding - shows that Lottery officials believe the project meets their criteria and has to the potential to succeed and deliver value for money.

Campaigners now plan to submit a full application for the £2.65 million of Lottery support they are seeking for phase one of the project in early 2010.

Susan Marsh, honorary secretary of The Dreamland Trust, said: "We will now work up detailed plans to ensure that we deliver this unique new visitor attraction in the heart of Margate, providing a major boost for the tourism economy and giving the people of Margate what they have so long wished for - a revitalised Dreamland."

The new amusement park would see some of the UK's oldest rides resurrected alongside iconic Margate landmarks including the Scenic Railway and the Dreamland cinema, both of which are listed buildings.

Entry to the park and landscaped gardens will be free of charge, with wristbands being sold for those who want to experience the rides.

The Dreamland Trust said the park would create "considerable employment opportunities for local people" and attract up to 700,000 people every year.

Now it looks as if they are planning more than we bargained for...even though T.D.C have't even sorted out ONE MESS! see for yourself below!

Number 1: ...ok so the naft up Pleasurama development...

Number 2:...yes I have informed myselff thank you very much by the only way you can milk democracy from TDC via the UK planning portal...

Number 3: Now then what have we here...oh a new skyscraper on Ramsgate's caost...somewhere for the planes to hit...ahh! Its not Dubai...or Concil do-buy a loada mad ideas! In the Ramsgate Millenium book Ramsgate Renaissance had a scheme like this but now its like the Royal Snds devellopment aka RMS Tianic is sinking with the iceburgs next to it breaking up!

Royal Sands AKA RMS Titanic has drfted off course..haha sorry no pn intended! and oh look its sinking on the other side of the harbour...definately going to annoy the people of Ramsgate and its at the moment beautiful appearence...and the redidents...its going above the cliff a bit too much!

Turner Centre building latest!

Above is the latest image from the Turner Building Site. David Chipperfield I have read does personally visit the site of his project and does come to Margate because of this project from time to time! I would really like to meet him as he is my favourite and personally i think he is the best architect today! But at last it is getting constructed and we are having one of his building right here in Thanet! Everyone should be pleased to have a fantastic design...though some of my friends at architecture school say that they are a cluster of glass sheds (like Thanet Concrete...sorry Earth) but I think they are fantastic...but Margate needs something else! My friemd who studies Fine Art at UCA in Canterbury conducted a survey. Half here in Thanet and the rest in Canterbury ( out of Thanet) She asked question that supposedly the Council did not Turn to the public and ask.

They were questions like:

Have you heard of it?

Do you know what it will look like?

Do you think it fits into its context?

Will use use any of the proposed workshops or gallerys?

and do you think it is a good idea?

the responses were amazing! Most of people in Thanet reponded with bad often wild comments towards Margate and the proposed Turner Centre shooting it down! The thing is because of the lack of public involvement of the proposal...instead more behind closed doors...the public get slightly irritated and like to express their opinions (Which the council should listen to...as architects do! Let's face it David did! it is professional to use the response of the public and listen to each person's opinion- and take it face to face! You'll get a better project! And it will please the public, they will be proud to live in the place...bringing better responses and more tourists...also more money! People out of Thanet (in Canterbury) did not know its appearence...what it was...they just about heard of it...UCA (University for the Creative Arts) has joined in, but due to national identity for it, the far it has reached are is the outskirts of Canterbury! We will need Margate's identity finely re-tuned again and more prospect if we are to get it back on the map though...building work only creates jobs for a limited time...when it is in construction...we need permenant things like Dreamland! Or ask the public on their views for the best ideas to boost Thanet's tourism to 1950's Heights before the slow slump in the 60's to todays mess!

TESCO BRANCH TO RE-OPEN IN RAMSGATE'S TOWN

Rumors have it that a new Tesco store is to open in Ramsgate's town Center. If true the store will be a Metro version [like Broadstairs] and be located inside the old Dixon's and Poundstretcher store on the corner of George Street opposite Argos- I will keep you informed!

TESCO EXTRA LOOSES POWER!

News spread about Tesco Extra in Broadstairs yesterday as at 9am Sunday morning its power failed causing the loss of all its main tills, refrigerators and freezers. The back-up generator came into action but stayed on most of the time. It has now a substantial loss in profits and has a high waste bill. Sadly reported ALL STOCK WAS THROWN AWAY! MEATS, AND FROZEN PRODUCTS! and they say their GREEN? Can't be too risky with meats though but still a big waste!

Only time will tell..in fact for all I can see...it has been 11years since the fire destroyed the Pleas building and 6 years since the formation of the new proposal! Well..."I want my money back" says the people that have purchased one of the ghost town flats. As i walk along the prom, prom, prom, tiddle-umm-dum-dum etc...I see chalk, rocks, fence..chalk...rock...fence...chalk...rock...oh you get the picture! Well anyway the cliff now hehehe grassing over once again...the site has being stood there for too long now...empty... and I want to see some action...! come on Thanet District Capers get a move on and produce some result's like the TEMPORARY FENCING that was down on the Eastcliff for 5 YEARS? and finally got removed! We are feed up with the flooding risk assessment issues and seeing an empty site...it should be a fun place! not flats! oh and more sodding flats! too much of that! Benefit your community! See the image below! Do this by next week Thanet District Capers! otherwise i'll put an extended runway next to your house for night flights! Hehehe!!!!!

DREAMLAND: THE HELTER HERITAGE!

I have recently seen the news item on SAVE THE DREAMLAND CAMPAIGN'S website that they have obtained another ride and that its now in storage! It is hoped that at the moment a large fund is to be decided and will provide Margate with a lump sum of £4million from Sea Change funding. The application was posted from the members of the Margate Renewal Partnership, The Dreamland Trust, site owners the Margate Town Centre Regeneration Company and Thanet District Council. Feasibility work for the project was also supported by Kent County Council, SEEDA, English Heritage and the Arts Council England.

It is hoped that the fund aimed specifically for the rejuvenation and regeneration of old seaside towns will help Margate- the most deprived in this part of Kent! And as a FACT is, that it is the one with the most POTENTIAL".

Margate- the town with a thousand identies" either needs a heritage outpost of identity as an old amusement park or needs a completely new identity! BUT FOR CERTAIN THE Turner Centre will not benifit the town single handidly! Which leeds one on to say that I can imagine this in a newspaper or on TDC's website 15 years down the line:

2026 The Turner Centre's future? Lets not be too harsh to say "I told you so TDC"!

"For years the proposal of bringing a new asset to the once famous seaside town of Margate took a new U-Turn-er for the worse last night as the local council for the Thanet District gathered for a meeting to discuss plans for the future of the old Turner Center building designed by retired internationally renowned architect David Chipperfield. The building which now stands next to the former Droit house site has stood empty for the best part of nine years and is hoped by the locals that it can be saved. Many believe that it was wrong from the start and that the tax payers money could have been spent on more beneficial attractions for the tourist or amenities for the locals. But TDC insist that they are to do their up most to prevent it from demolition." The Guardian 2026.

Not being too biased or anything, but to re-stabilize Margate, it needs Dreamland, to stabilize Dreamland you need the Turner Center! With the Turner center alone - no good!
